Pearson running 'strict' regime at Derby

Derby County striker Nick Blackman says new manager Nigel Pearson is running a strict regime at the club.

The former Leicester City boss was appointed in May[1] on a three-year deal, replacing Darren Wassall.

And the 26-year-old believes the Rams’ players are responding positively Pearson’s methods.

“He has been great since he’s come in. He has been very strict and we all know who’s the boss,” Blackman told BBC East Midlands Today.

“His word goes and that’s final but there can be no complaints that players didn’t know what their jobs were.

“Everyone is on the same sheet and we’re all going in the same direction.”

Blackman joined Derby from Reading for £2.5m in January and made 17 appearances last season, but only seven starts and he was unable to find the back of the net.

The Rams won 1-0 at Sheffield United in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, with Blackman scoring the only goal from the penalty spot against one of his former clubs.

“It may only be pre-season and it’s more about the minutes and getting through fitness-wise,” added Blackman.

“That’s the most important thing. I am very excited about the new season, everyone is pushing for places.

“I didn’t get a run in the team last season but that’s done and it now feels like a fresh start.

“For me, on a personal level, I want to play as many games as I can, hopefully through the middle and show people what I am capable of.

“The goal for everyone is to get promoted, there’s no secret about that.”
