Tuchel: ‘Bayern one of the best in the world’

Borussia Dortmund[2] conclude their eye-opening tour of China with a friendly against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City FC[3] on Thursday. BVB have looked impressive in preseason, but does head coach Thomas Tuchel think his new-look side can pose a serious threat to FC Bayern’s München’s Bundesliga crown[4] in 2016/17? “We’ll try,” he told media in Shenzhen. “They’re one of the best teams not only in Germany but in the world. It’s very hard. You have to be careful not to set the bar too high. A lot of teams will challenge us. We have to focus on ourselves and create a good team spirit. That should bring the best out of us.”

Hertha face Brondby

After finishing seventh in the Bundesliga[5] last season, Hertha Berlin[6] get their UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign under way against Danish side IF Brondby on Thursday (kick-off: 21:15CEST/19:15GMT). The first leg takes place on Berlin soil at the Olympiastadion, with the return leg to follow on 4 August.

“[Brondby] are a good side, they’re well organised and they’re a bit of a name,” said Hertha head coach Pal Dardai of the Old Lady’s much anticipated third qualifying round tie. “Good opposition helps us develop. We want experience in Europe – that’s what we’re going to get and that’s important.”
