FC Bayern München suffered a 5-3 penalty shootout defeat to AC Milan on Wednesday in the pre-season International Champions Cup tournament after the sides shared an entertaining 3-3 draw in normal time.

The German champions responded strongly, and fine long-range goals from David Alaba and Franck Ribery put them ahead at the break.
The Rossoneri responded in kind, though, with strikes from Andrea Bertolacci and Juraj Kucka putting the seven-time European Cup winners ahead just after the hour.

Bayern levelled proceedings again in the 90th minute, Ribery coolly slotting his penalty after Juan Bernat was brought down inside the box.
Philipp Lahm, Alaba and Bernat were all also on target from 12 yards – this time in the shootout – but full-back Rafinha’s miss was enough for Milan to take the spoils, inflicting a first defeat on Ancelotti in his time as Bayern coach.
Bayern now face FC Internazionale Milano on 30 July in Charlotte, North Carolina, before rounding off their visit to the USA against Real Madrid CF in New York City on 3 August.
Rafinha misses from the spot.
Carlo Ancelotti (Bayern head coach): “The game and the performance were good. After going behind, we reacted well. At the moment it’s all about our physical condition; that’s what we’re working on.”
Watch: Franck Ribery will go down as an FC Bayern legend. Can Dortmund newcomer Marc Bartra follow in his footsteps?
